Ra'anana (literally meaning ‘fresh’) was established as an agricultural colony or "Moshava" in 1922, declared a municipality in 1937, and eventually became a city in 1983. Ra'anana has been awarded three honorable titles as a city: "The greenest city in Israel," "Champion of quality governance," and "Safe community. It was also accredited as "Green City" by the WHO in 2005. In the last 20 years Ra'anana's commercial area has grown substantially and hosts many global and local start-up companies.
